Window on the World

Royal Museum Project, National Museum of Scotland
June 2011

Following a major three-year redevelopment, the National Museum of Scotland aims take visitors on a journey through the wonders of nature, science and discovery and the cultures of the world.

Situated in the stunning Grand Gallery and spread across four floors, the Window on the World is the largest single museum installation in the UK. Showcasing a spectacular and diverse array of items from science and technology to the natural world, archaeology and cultures of the world to the history of Scotland.

Clay designed and produced a series of 8 interactive terminals that allow visitors to browse the collection, accessing detailed descriptions, images and videos through an intuitive touch interface.

Content Management System

By leveraging Clay's online content management system, staff at the National Museum of Scotland were able to edit placeholder content for the Window on the World exhibit whilst it was being developed and tested, streamlining the production process.

Designed to be globally accessible, secure and robust, the CMS automatically synchronises multiple copies of the content across all active locations - meaning that museum staff could be assured they were editing the same version of the content that was being used to test interim versions of the software.
